The 4 Universally Flattering Clothing Colors

Some hues bring out the best in everyone, regardless of skin tone or hair color.

Flattering Color: Eggplant

"Some colors work for all skin tones and hair colors, because they fall into the middle of the color spectrum, meaning they're not too warm or too cool," says Leatrice Eiseman, author of The Color Answer Book (Capital Books, $20, Amazon.com) and director of the Pantone Color Institute, the international authority on color. Case in point: eggplant (Pantone 19-2311 TC). Eiseman calls the tone "the perfect purple" because it is extremely versatile, almost like a black, a dark brown, or a navy.

Flattering Color: True Red

Designer Bill Blass once said, "When in doubt, wear red." And he was right. Not only does red stop traffic but it may also make you a winner. In a study conducted at the University of Durham, in England, researchers found that athletes in combative sporting competitions who wore red were more apt to win than contestants wearing other colors. 19-1664 TC flatters everyone because it "resides in the center of the color spectrum, in between a cool cherry red and a warm, orangey tomato red," says New York City makeup artist Sonia Kashuk.

Flattering Color: Indian Teal

Colors on opposite sides of the color wheel enhance each other, which is why strawberries look so good packaged in green containers, Eiseman says. It's not surprising that this teal-Pantone 19-4227 TC, the color-wheel opposite of pink-plays up a healthy flush in the skin. Plus, it's more versatile than a bright, summery turquoise, so you can wear it well into the fall with black, brown, and other neutrals.

Flattering Color: Mellow Rose

Sorry, Pretty in Pink fans, but Molly Ringwald did not look all that great in her bubble-gum pink prom dress. She should have opted for a more sophisticated shade, somewhere between a light pink and a peach, which looks more like a neutral than a pastel. The subtle color (Pantone 15-1515 TC) highlights the natural flush of one's face, says Kashuk, giving anyone who wears it a glow. No wonder Kashuk recommends a similar shade of lipstick to all her clients.

Back-to-School Shopping Help

Things are very busy at my house getting ready for five of my six kids who are going back to school in a few days. Back-to-school shopping is one of our favorite things to do. I have four girls and we have a ball going out together and picking out new clothes.

My girls love Aeropostale, Hollister and Blend Fashions. As their mom it's nice to have created a product--my mod bod undershirts--I know will make any piece of clothing modest. If it is sleeveless, a little too short or a little too low cut it is immediately modest and acceptable to wear with a mod bod underneath!

For example, this top by Hollister is darling but without a mod bod tank underneath it would be to0 low cut and would not have enough coverage on top. Using mod bod makes me worry less as their mother but makes them happy to be able to wear the current fashions.

This dress was another favorite! They loved the detail around the neckline and bottom and it was actually long enough, but no way would it be acceptable to wear to school with the style of the back and top. Throw a cap-sleeve mod bod underneath and it has all the coverage it needs!

Aeropostale Henley Tunic

This tunic top IS modest but it features another issue I have with a lot of teen clothing. Lots of them are not warm enough for fall and winter! I have noticed teen clothing for the colder seasons use really thin material. They are dying to wear their favorite tops and head to school freezing when they do! By placing a mod bod long-sleeve top underneath it will keep your kids warm at school without keeping them from wearing their favorite tops.

At our house we have a brand new baby and my oldest son has been an angel helping out with the laundry. Another fantastic thing about mod bod is its high quality construction and fabric is such that it is not easily ruined in the wash. So while having him help out is great, I don't have to worry about him ruining the tops!

Hopefully this has helped all the moms and teens heading out for some back-to-school shopping. Use mod bod to make the trip go more smoothly; you don't have to fight about whether things are modest or not when they know they need to wear a mod bod underneath to make it work!

You have to remember fashion on the runway is an art form and only a mere representation of actual "in real life" fashion. Off the runway everything is much more subdued and there are plenty of ways you can recreate something like the Rocker Look and have it be modest and also glamorous.

Fall Fashion Preview

The past month I have been thinking a lot about Fall 2009 fashion and going on trips to get more inspiration. I am estatic to share some of my favorite upcoming trends with you!
I am all into "key pieces" as you can tell by upcoming Fall MB Clothing Line. I love pieces you can mix with any outfit to bring it up to date on the most current fashions. These are some key fashion pieces for Fall and Winter 2009.

Bohemian Luxury

Mainstrem trends are much much more toned down than what you see in high-fashion pictures (like the pictures I am using in this post) so don't let it scare you! But look at the beautiful fabric in these dresses! And the colors they are choosing and the detail--simply gorgeous! It is the perfect combination of sexy, rock chic, luxury, gypsy and folk. I love studying every seam, every shade of color and detail; they are such peices of art, don't you think? Some of the key pieces in this style to look for (start now to get the best pick) would be:
Flowing white peasant shirts
Fringed boots
Details like leather pieces
Embroidery and paisley prints
Charm / coin belts in your acessories
Fur-trimmed pieces




Plaid/Tartan Trend

Tartan and plaid were in last Fall and are again this year, in everything from dresses to boyfriend shirts to coats. Look for this and be open to where you can add it in your wardrobe, everything from a scarf to an evening gown can work.



Boots

Lastly, one of my favorite thing to talk about: SHOES! More importantly, above-the-knee boots! Kate Moss must know all the fashion secrets before they arrive on the runway because she has been spotted wearing them for a few months! You see them everywhere over in the UK, which means they should be here in the U.S. any day. You can make them look professional and not over the top by pairing them with a paisley jersey dress, tight pants or a skirt that hits just above the boot. These are not to wear with a short skirt; that style isn't "in" and wouldn't look too great.

More On My Ruffle Tank

The Ruffle Tank from my Spring/Summer line is one of my very favorite designs we've done at modbod. I wanted to show you a bit more in detail how you can add them into your wardrobe.

As we said in the previous post it is the perfect match with our Pencil Skirt no matter the skirt's color (khaki, black or brown). If you didn't want to go sleeveless you could throw on a cardigan (our banded cardigan would be perfect) or even a nice jacket that meshes well with the Pencil Skirt. Using ModBod to Help You Layer Correctly

Pairing ModBod Undershirts with Upcoming Fall Fashions

I know it isn't cooling down YET but I still love browsing the newest Fall fashions and finding ones that will work perfectly with our modbod undershirts. We make some of the highest quality clothing in our industry so it looks fantastic when you pair it with another high-quality choice. Other layering shirt brands can look a little off or even make your outfit look a bit cheap when you have an unflattering or low-quality undershirt.

Halogen is a very affordable line you can find at Nordstrom; the designs of their clothes are very figure flattering and the quality is top notch.

Lastly, the low rise jeans are still around and to be honest, Blend Fashions FINALLY made me somewhat of a fan after I tried on a pair of their PRVCY jeans.

You DO have to be really careful with these if you want to stay modest! Wearing one of our undershirts will make your tops long enough so when you are moving around or bending over you are staying covered for sure!
