Four of my children are girls, so our home is buzzing with clothing, makeup and fashion talk. One of the main reasons I started the mod bod line was a bit of a selfish one: I wanted a line my teenage girls could use to keep them modest and allow them to wear the current trends.
I also love when I find products, lines, tutorials that portray a similar message, in other words, that you can be beautiful and stunning while still being modest and natural.
My girls and I found these fabulous makeup tutorials to help teach them about makeup application. Aside from special occasions, I love natural, clean looking makeup. And it helps to have someone their own age, who obviously keeps up on today's fashion, show them the same thing!

Flattering Clothing Colors
We have true red, eggplant and Indian teal in our Fall '09 line and the mellow rose in our Spring '10 line so when I saw this article I knew it would be perfect to share with our readers! Enjoy!

Some hues bring out the best in everyone, regardless of skin tone or hair color.
Flattering Color: Eggplant
"Some colors work for all skin tones and hair colors, because they fall into the middle of the color spectrum, meaning they're not too warm or too cool," says Leatrice Eiseman, author of The Color Answer Book (Capital Books, $20, Amazon.com) and director of the Pantone Color Institute, the international authority on color. Case in point: eggplant (Pantone 19-2311 TC). Eiseman calls the tone "the perfect purple" because it is extremely versatile, almost like a black, a dark brown, or a navy.
Designer Bill Blass once said, "When in doubt, wear red." And he was right. Not only does red stop traffic but it may also make you a winner. In a study conducted at the University of Durham, in England, researchers found that athletes in combative sporting competitions who wore red were more apt to win than contestants wearing other colors. 19-1664 TC flatters everyone because it "resides in the center of the color spectrum, in between a cool cherry red and a warm, orangey tomato red," says New York City makeup artist Sonia Kashuk.

Sorry, Pretty in Pink fans, but Molly Ringwald did not look all that great in her bubble-gum pink prom dress. She should have opted for a more sophisticated shade, somewhere between a light pink and a peach, which looks more like a neutral than a pastel. The subtle color (Pantone 15-1515 TC) highlights the natural flush of one's face, says Kashuk, giving anyone who wears it a glow. No wonder Kashuk recommends a similar shade of lipstick to all her clients.

Guide to Dressing Your Body Type using Our Line
Here at mod bod for every new line we always have something for every body type. We try to appeal to women of all different ages, shapes and styles.Have no idea what body type you have? Have no idea where to start? Then hopefully this post will help start you in the right direction.
One of my favorite blogs is the Cardigan Empire; she really is the queen of style and the most knowledgeable person on how to dress for your body type. She has incredible style and helps women LOVE their body type. Just look at her fabulous badges you can proudly post on your sites. She offers a great guide on how to find your body type if you are not sure how!
All the outfits she puts together are fantastic and using mod bod to add another layer, making sure they are modest and cover enough, is the perfect addition.
We wanted to explain a little about body types and show you pieces from our Spring/Summer line that fit into these categories!
Pear: A-line skirts do a great job of hiding wide thighs. Choose light or bright colored tops and darker bottoms to draw attention to the upper half of your body and slim the lower half. Find and wear tops that are gathered or cinched right under your bust, in the middle and choose a blazer the buttons right below your chest so you draw attention higher not lower.
Perfect mod bod example: A-Line Skirt
Inverted Triangle: For this kind of body it is important to be able to balance your upper body with your lower body. To do this, you must de-emphasize the upper body and draw attention to your hips and legs. Stick to tops of darker color, simple designs and shapes; the best top is a classic V-neck. Work with pants and skirts that are brightly colored, have large prints or that make your bottom half appear wider.

Rectangle: Look for items that are tailored at the waist. The shirt, jacket or dress should nip in at the waist to create the illusion that your figure has the waist. Choose brighter colors at the bust line to break up your figure and make your bust look larger. Many shirts and dresses feature extra color or styling at the top. These can help you to instantly look curvier and less like a rectangle.

It is so important to know how to dress for your body type so shopping, getting ready and looking fabulous is fun and less stressful for you!

Finding the RIGHT Pair of Jeans
You know I am a huge fan of jeans--how versitle they are, such a blank but hot canvas for you to create a fabulous outfi. The problem is so many ladies don't know the right jeans for their body type, which makes it hard for them to pull off the rest of their outfit!

1. When you have a little extra love in the stomach area it is hard to find the right pair of jeans. If they are too high-rise you look squeezed into them and if they are too lowrise you have that horrid overhang. You need a pair that sits nicely on your HIPS.
2. Even just five years ago finding jeans that were long enough for tall or long-legged women was hard! Then it got to the point where you could find them online but it was a pain to send them back if they didn't work. Finally stores have a great selection of jeans that are long enough so you don't look as if you've grown out of your clothes! You can find pairs that have LONGER INSEAMS. Jeans really should hit the mid part of your foot to look fabulous.
3. If you are looking to create the illusion you actually have a "rear" then this tip is for you! When you DON'T wear the right type of jeans you look baggy and frumpy in the behind and is is so unflattering! You need HIGHER DETAILED POCKETS. These are SO easy to find! Hit up Nordstrom and the Buckle for starters. It will create the illusion that you do in fact have a cute rear!
4. One of the most common body types for us mothers is the pear shape. It can create a "gaping waist" problem when you have on the wrong pair of jeans. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let us see you in tapered jeans; they make the problem so much worse! Buy yourself a trouser style, boot-cut style or even flare (but don't go crazy) style. This will give you a sexy hourglass figure.
5. Finally, the issue most personal for me: how to find jeans for petite ladies. We are always swimming in the pant length, and to be honest the stores that do carry petite styles are often not as cute as the other half of the store and the selection is seriously lacking. So, ladies...find a pair of jeans you love in every other aspect, suck it up and GET THEM TAILORED. We also look hot in slim-fitting boot cut jeans!

Back-to-School Shopping Help
Things are very busy at my house getting ready for five of my six kids who are going back to school in a few days. Back-to-school shopping is one of our favorite things to do. I have four girls and we have a ball going out together and picking out new clothes.
My girls love Aeropostale, Hollister and Blend Fashions. As their mom it's nice to have created a product--my mod bod undershirts--I know will make any piece of clothing modest. If it is sleeveless, a little too short or a little too low cut it is immediately modest and acceptable to wear with a mod bod underneath!
For example, this top by Hollister is darling but without a mod bod tank underneath it would be to0 low cut and would not have enough coverage on top. Using mod bod makes me worry less as their mother but makes them happy to be able to wear the current fashions.
This dress was another favorite! They loved the detail around the neckline and bottom and it was actually long enough, but no way would it be acceptable to wear to school with the style of the back and top. Throw a cap-sleeve mod bod underneath and it has all the coverage it needs!
This tunic top IS modest but it features another issue I have with a lot of teen clothing. Lots of them are not warm enough for fall and winter! I have noticed teen clothing for the colder seasons use really thin material. They are dying to wear their favorite tops and head to school freezing when they do! By placing a mod bod long-sleeve top underneath it will keep your kids warm at school without keeping them from wearing their favorite tops.
At our house we have a brand new baby and my oldest son has been an angel helping out with the laundry. Another fantastic thing about mod bod is its high quality construction and fabric is such that it is not easily ruined in the wash. So while having him help out is great, I don't have to worry about him ruining the tops!
Hopefully this has helped all the moms and teens heading out for some back-to-school shopping. Use mod bod to make the trip go more smoothly; you don't have to fight about whether things are modest or not when they know they need to wear a mod bod underneath to make it work!

Sparkle and Shine, Big Shoulders, Maybe TOO High Boots and the Rocker Look are all featured in this video for upcoming Fall fashion.
You have to remember fashion on the runway is an art form and only a mere representation of actual "in real life" fashion. Off the runway everything is much more subdued and there are plenty of ways you can recreate something like the Rocker Look and have it be modest and also glamorous.
