Tips to Make Your Outfits YOU

Fashion trends are fun but unless you are comfortable and stay true to YOURSELF, you won't be as confident as you normally feel. Here are some great tips on how to make your style fresh, up to date and true to yourself!

  1. If you personal style is neutral colors then stick with those but make your outfits pop by adding bright colors with a pair of shoes, an undershirt or accessories. It won't be as uncomfortable as changing up your entire outfit but will help you wear current trendy colors without spending a fortune on switching your entire wardrobe every month.
  2. Make the most of what you have by playing up your best assets. It's time to stop worrying about what you DON'T like and start focusing on what you DO like! It will make you look and feel more pulled together, sexy and confident. If you love your arms add more sleeveless or cap-sleeve tops. If you are lucky enough to have a slim waist, bring attention to it by the clothing you wear. Have great legs? Wear skirts and shorts to show them off! Play up your wonderful assets!
  3. Find your classic pieces. Nothing feels better than having certain pieces in your wardrobe you know make you look fabulous and feel confident. If you haven't found your pieces yet play around with a few things, ask your best friend's opinion or take advice from a personal shopper. Is it a hot pair of jeans? A certain style of shoes? A particular style of cardigan? Find it and embrace it.
  4. Perfect isn't always the best so stop fretting about it! For example, look at Kate Moss--something is always a little untucked, "sloppy sexy" or a bit unfinished but it actually MAKES her outfits!
  5. Figure out your perfect color and wear it often. Color can transform your look and your attitude—find just the right hues for you.
  6. Don't get too caught up with what pieces are right for what season. Want to take a summery dress into fall? Ditch the flip-flops for a pair of cool boots.
  7. Use fashion magazines, websites and catalogs to your advantage. Don't get caught up in looking just like the models in the photos but use them to help you come up with new fresh ideas.
  8. Notice accessories: bracelets, earrings, pins, necklaces, scarves, belts and hair jewelry. I think this is one of the most important areas we use to express our own style. Accessories are like the icing on the cake. Be cautious, though, and experiment before you jump in.
  9. Pay attention to the pattern that emerges--this is your style! You can add new elements gradually or combine them all to have a style that is uniquely and completely you.
  10. Always be yourself when you are looking for your own style. People will respect you for it.
